What is Value

A friend presented a hypothetical question: if an entertainment service costs more than the service of a life saving doctor, does that mean the value of that entertainment is worth more than life?

My answer was yes, if we are talking purely about the market. But that’s the issue with value. It is determined by the buyer.

The price is set by the seller. But when it comes to value, the individual buyer decides what a product or service is worth to them.

To the individual who doesn’t need that life saving service, the entertainment service presents more value.

So what does value mean to you? Do you criticize how others spend their money because you have different valuations? How would people less fortunate than you criticize how you spend your money?
