Reading out loud

For a new nights, I’ve been reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix to my wife before bed. Well, she was reading and I offered to read if out loud with funny voices.

It’s been fun coming up with exaggerated voices. Reading out loud also is quite different than reading silently. Sometimes I would repeatedly mispronounce the same word over and over but immediately correcting it. I see patterns in my reading.

And because I’m reading to someone else (and trying to entertain) it’s an exercise in changing vocal tones.

Another thing I noticed is how JK Rowling writes. It’s more noticeable reading out loud about her selection of words and sentence structure. I can’t exactly pinpoint nor put it into words. I suggest that you give it a go yourself and see if you notice these things too.
