Deleted Scenes – Horcruxes

Movie/Book spoilers ahead, you’ve been warned.

For Christmas, I got the full Harry Potter blue ray set (along with a blue ray player to watch them). So we’ve been going to town this whole week on them every evening.

I was really glad about a minor detail fix that has always irked me in the deathly hallows movies the mentioning that“horcruxes could be anything, random objects”

No! That was the whole point of the Half Blood Prince!!!! To link exceptional objects of historical and personal importance to Tom Riddle that he would entrust to store a piece of his soul within.

So in one of the deleted scenes, Harry says to Ron and Hermoine that he doesn’t think the objects they’re hunting are random. He references that Dumbledore was tracing Riddle’s past for clues.

Thank you!!

Now, movies naturally need to be shorter than books. Film scripts need be written in a way is logical but moves the core story forward in in a concise manner.

And then not everything that is written in the script will be filmed. And not everything that is filmed gets the final cut into the theatrical release.

So now I step back and think about how critical I am about movies and plot holes. Perhaps there needed to be tough decisions made in the editing room that disrupted the flow of the final movie. Perhaps, it introduced a plot hole.

While I (and maybe you) would love to watch a 10 hour movie if it is Harry Potter, the movies are made to fit in a time limit. Edits are necessary… but sometimes there are (plot/book) casualties.
