NEW Oreo Flavors: Java Chip and Chocolate Hazelnut

Now, I consider myself a bit of a cookie connoisseur (or a cookie snob). So when I walked through Shoprite this past weekend, these new flavors jumped out at me.

They demanded my immediate attention. So today (Thursday), these two boxes have already been sitting impatiently on my shelf for 4 days, I thought it is time to crack them open.

Before diving in, I take a sip of milk to get ready for the new experience.

First up, Java Chip. As I peel open the package, right away I get an intoxicating aroma of the java filling my face. I take one out and notice that the creme is slightly thicker than the classic Oreo.

After a dunk in the milk (this is the way), I bite into the cookie. The Java Chip is extremely rich. The coffee scent is not overpowering. It is just right.

Next up, Chocolate Hazelnut. As I peel open the package, I am surprised that the smell of hazelnut is not present. Even bringing a cookie right up to my nose, I don’t really smell the hazelnut like I would expect from, for example, a scoop of Nutella.

After a dunk again in the milk (this is the way), I bite into the cookie. The Chocolate Hazelnut proves why the chocolate comes before hazelnut in the name. The Hazelnut is very subtle but enhances the flavor for sure. It is most definitely a solid chocolate creme.

Of these two flavors, I prefer the Java Chip but due to it’s richness, perhaps it is best rationed – whereas I may go to town on the Chocolate Hazelnut in short order.

So there you have it, that’s my quick review of these two new Oreo flavors. Now go and get yourself some Oreos!
