Car Battery Reviews | Social Proof

The car battery died again. After just successfully jumping it 2 days ago and driving the car around for about an hour, today the car wouldn’t start. Granted, I noticed that the trunk was left open so that must have re-drained the battery.

Knowing that stock car battery life is about 5 years, it’s about time to get a replacement (mine is about 4.5 years old). My brother Kenny recommended getting AGM (Absorbent Glass Matt) as they are superior in every way to the traditional FLA (Flooded-Lead Acid).

After he listed a bunch of reasons why they’re better, including longer lasting, I was convinced.

That is by far the most powerful social proof: recommendation from a trusted source. I know that Kenny does his due diligence on things such as car maintenance. In his younger days, he went through a sports car phase. He’d go on meet ups and caravan gatherings with his 3000GT.

Unfortunately his sports car days ended when his car became totaled while taking down a light pole on the entrance ramp onto the highway. Luckily he had no scratch at all on his body but can’t remember what happened.

Anyway, so now that I know to get an AGM battery, I began my search online for where to get one. After identifying that my 2017 Honda Accord LX needs a BCI Group 51R size battery, it now comes down to where I can get the battery and the brand.

As for the location, I’ve narrowed it down to AutoZone and Advanced Auto Parts. Both stores are about the same distance away 8-10 miles (20min drive). And the brands are Diehard (Advanced Auto) and Duralast (AutoZone).

With a few review searches, Diehard is THE premium brand while Duralast is from the same manufacturer specifically for AutoZone.

With the cost difference of $20, I’ll be going for Duralast from AutoZone in a few days when it stops raining.

When we are looking to buy a product, we look for reviews as social proof. It’s important to note where the information is coming from. The source needs to be impartial to bias and sponsorships. There needs to be integrity from the site.

Keep this in mind if ever you are looking to recommend a product or service to someone you know – make sure you are genuine. Be the trustworthy source.
