High HIGHS, and Low LOWS

Today was a rollercoaster of emotions. There was a department meeting at work that ended with a bit of a farewell party as I’m leaving my job in a few short weeks. The team pitched in and got me a professional speaker and headset.

And then each member shared a fond memory they had with me over the years. It was quite an internal tear jerker and hit me hard in the feels. Towards the end of the party meeting, the gift had arrived and I went to get the package downstairs. After a quick unboxing reveal, I again thanked the team for their generous gift, and we all left the meeting to eat some lunch.

I rode this high well into the evening.

When my wife Krista came home, I noticed her voice was a bit odd. She broke some terrible news that her dance instructor for the last 2 years is leaving to open their own studio.

Now, a bit of background as to why this was devastating, she was forced to change dance instructors 2 years ago suddenly. While she likes her current dance instructor, having a dance partnership takes a lot. The obvious part is that it takes time. But there is also a connection that is necessary for a successful partnership.

You see, ballroom dance is an art of communication between two people and the audience. The connection is beyond physical for it to be successful. For my wife, dancing has also been her joy and passion. It is where she expresses herself and has fun.

I didn’t know what to do when she broke this news to me. All I could do was hug and hold her. And try to lift her up from her low LOW.
