Today is Easter! We knew this because yesterday I did a Facebook Live video of Easter Eve Eggstravaganza where I reviewed 6 different chocolate eggs.
But today, after a grueling morning of spring cleaning, we just relaxed in the afternoon. And at 6pm, we went to do our weekly Sunday evening shopping.
When we pulled up to Shoprite, we noticed the very empty parking lot and our hearts sank. My wife and I looked at each other and muttered at the same time, “Easter…”
We waited for two other gentlemen already walking to the automatic doors. And then we saw then turn around and head back to their cars.
I didn’t even shut off the engine. With a sigh, I drove us back home.
In a largely digital interaction type of world we live in, we get to choose our inputs from the outside. Even though we knew it was Easter, because we didn’t celebrate it, it didn’t FEEL like any special day.
We were in essence disconnected from the outside world. I don’t necessarily think this is a bad thing, other than the inconvenience we encountered today.
In fact, I think it’s very important to choose what you let enter into your “world”. Most world of even local events serve you no real purpose and only distract you from living your best life.
Cut out the noise. Choose to disconnect from the outside world. And focus on your life and your work: the things that really matter to you.
